Ricoh GR Digital III Review

I have previously reviewed Ricoh film cameras and now I’m exploring the brand’s transition to digital, with the Ricoh Digital III. Please note, this is a GR Digital (GRD) 3 not a GR3, the company decided to have very weird naming conventions.

I go over the external buttons, mode dial, and power button on the right side of the camera. I am pretty amazed at how well this camera is built, nice and heavy in the hand. However, what is annoying is the mode dial wheel, it’s locked so if I wanted to switch between aperture priority and manual I would have to use two hands. It was a fresh of breath air to know the GR 3 takes SD cards from this era though, so I didn’t have to go out looking for a propriety storage system.

The camera take DB65, which area also very easy to find. The menu system has so many choice for anyone that really wants to go in there and customizes this camera. The biggest takeaway while I was using this camera was to not trust the LCD, t’s not reliable for checking focus or to review the images. However, I love the leveler at the bottom that glows green when the camera is centered. Overall, the camera has a lot of customization options and a beautiful film look, but some design choices.
